This perfume is spicy, green, sweet, and musky.

17th and 18th century Canadians, hardened by the brutal unforgiving nature of the north, who against all odds formed the routes that became our roads. These hardy travelers gave rise to folklore and music that acknowledged their strength and endurance, and are still celebrated to this day. These are the Voyageurs.

Growing up in Winnipeg Manitoba, Festival du Voyageurs which was celebrated every year, was an impactful memory for me. A few important smells bring me back to those times: Visiting my grandmother’s house in the winter, fresh cut vegetables for stew, and tourtière; Maple sugar, around the woody smell of old Fort Gibraltar in the winter.  This perfume, which I formulated over nearly 100 different trials, is intended to capture that memory in scent form, and I believe is distinctly French Canadian.

Cannot believe how much I like this. I have been having trouble finding solid natural perfumes that aren’t just an overload of the same notes I always smell. 10/10!

Magnifique!! This fragrance is very strong upfront but settles into an incredible comfortable and warm woody maple. ALMOST gourmand but not quite, very impressive work with natural materials as I have tried my hand at that myself. French Canadian pride on full display! Elbows Up!

Voyageurs opens up with an aggressive blast of green. The pine needles and fir are very prominent, and then there’s the celery! I have smelled many many perfumes over the years and I have never encountered such a photorealistic celery note before. Go to your fridge, grab a stock of celery, snap it in half and then take a big whiff. This is exactly what I get along with the pine and fir. It is incredibly interesting, somewhat refreshing yet strange. I am not entirely sure if I like it or not. I think the celery does a good job at keeping the very pine heavy opening from being too forest-like.

After a few minutes, the top has settled down quite a bit, and I can start to make out more of the notes in the composition. The celery is still here, and the pine has lost much of its vigor, however it still lingers. It almost reminds me of when you get pine tree sap on your fingers, and you try to clean it off by rubbing your fingers on trees and leaves.

Maple candy is listed as a note, which I slightly get, however do not expect it to be a super maply-heavy accord. It is more like maple sap before it is boiled down to syrup. It has some sweetness, some woodiness but is not gourmand in any way.

Black team and cream are also listed as notes. As a huge fan of black teas, I am not getting much of a tea vibe especially in the opening. I am getting a slight creamy muskiness as the fragrance dries. It is somewhat powdery, building upon the maple candy note.

As voyageurs dries down, the celery persists, maintaining quite a vegetal quality, that while not off putting at all, is not necessarily a note that I gravitate towards.

This fragrance smells exactly as described: vegetative (particularly celery), tourtière spices, maple. I don’t love how that combination turns out on my skin, but it is definitely profoundly unique and tells a story.

I wasn’t really expecting to like this as a wearable perfume and ordered a sample more out of curiosity and because I figured I could appreciate the artistry of it even if I didn’t wear it. But I tried this today on skin for the first time and actually really love it! There is a strong celery/spicy note that intermingles with a subtle, sweeter maple syrup note in the background and the effect is rather intoxicating. I think I will really enjoy this one in the cooler months.
